At present focusing on plant forms for inspiration, Colin is creating a range of sculptural lighting, which through colour, gesture and form can dramatically change the mood of a room.
From a background of working with steel he has happily moved on to copper and aluminium, metals that he finds wonderfully malleable, like using clay in comparison to steel. He works with these materials, pressing, beating and bending, to form the bases for the lights.
The lampshades themselves are produced from a very thin layer of papier-mache held around a wire frame. This is coloured and bent into all kinds of flowing flower forms.
